January 14 All Call Script

Good Afternoon Black Tiger Families, this is Tom DiFrancesco, High School Associate Principal, calling with a follow up to the message sent out from Dr. Nichols last Friday.  

Beginning this Tuesday, January 19th, we will be transitioning students, including those in Special Education and Career Tech, into a Hybrid Instructional model.  Students in our Black Tiger Remote Learning Academy will continue to work remotely.  Students enrolled in a career program at Cuyahoga Falls High School will be expected to report to their career program, in-person, Monday through Friday.  

Attendance is mandatory for all students, every single day.  Students are expected to zoom into each of their classes on the days they are working remotely.  For example, students with last names starting with A-K will be expected to be in the building, in-person, on Monday and Tuesday, and are expected to zoom into each of their classes Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, according to the schedule located on the high school webpage; students that do not zoom into their classes daily will be marked absent.  Students with last names starting with L-Z will be expected to zoom into all of their classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and are expected to be in the building, in-person, on Wednesday and Thursday.  Again, students that do not zoom into their classes daily will be marked absent.

Seniors, a quick reminder regarding flex passes.  All seniors are eligible to receive a flex pass, provided that they have completed their EMA form, in order to flex out of study hall.  Both the student EMA form and the flex pass form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian in order to receive a flex pass.  Seniors flexing out must scan the Flex Pass QR code when leaving the building and complete the brief attendance Google Form.  The flex pass forms and ema forms are available in the Unit A and B office.  Seniors are not permitted to flex out until both of these forms have been completed and returned.

Any student that has a 7th period study hall scheduled for this semester, is permitted to OPT OUT of that study hall, provided that a parent or guardian has given permission.  Students need to complete the study hall OPT OUT form and must have a completed EMA on file, in order to OPT OUT of their 7th period study hall.  The study hall OPT OUT form is available on the high school webpage and physical copies will be available in the Unit A and B office.  EMA forms are also available in the Unit A and B office.

As students will be coming back into the building Tuesday, January 19th, we would like to remind you that the Cuyahoga Falls City School District continues to follow the safety protocols recommended by the Summit County Health Department.  Therefore, individuals coming into the building must properly wear a mask, covering one's mouth and nose, at all times, and maintain social distancing whenever possible.  Therefore, students are not permitted to congregate while in the building or on school grounds.  Failure to comply with these safety guidelines may result in disciplinary action.

2nd Semester Student Schedule and Bell Schedule

Starting January 4, 2021, students will remain in the remote environment for the start of the 2nd semester. Any exceptions to this will be notified individually. It is important to note that there have been changes made to the 2021 CFHS 2nd semester bell schedule. While in our all remote setting, ALL STUDENTS A-Z will attend all of their classes (remotely) on their schedule every day. Students are expected to log into their Zoom session during the times reflected on the bell schedule. Fridays will continue to follow the same schedule and format as we did throughout the first semester. 

Second semester schedules in Progress Book reflect all new classes or changes to students' current schedules. We have updated our Google Classroom codes spreadsheet to accurately reflect any new courses and/or new teachers. It provides a list of all teachers in alphabetical order, their period schedule, and their corresponding Google Classroom code. In addition, teachers will be sending out invitations to all NEW students through student email accounts prior to the start of the class inviting them to their classroom. Once in the classroom, a link for virtual meetings is provided for students to attend their classes. 

Further announcements regarding Option 1 and Option 2 students as well as any individual exceptions to the plan will always be communicated from the Superintendent's office.

Cohort (class level) Google Classrooms

Thanks to the recommendation by several of our student leaders, we have launched our cohort (grade level) Google classrooms.  All students at the high school including Option 1 and Option 2 received an email invitation to join a google classroom for their specific grade level. This Google classroom will be used to post important information from a variety of sources including CFHS administration, executive committee, student council, school counselors, athletics, activities, media center and many more. Announcement links and Technology Tips will also be posted here as well as social emotional assignments. We ask all students to regularly check this during Tiger Time to keep up to date on events and information about the high school and to complete the advisory activities. 

 

Chromebooks and Technology

The Cuyahoga Falls City School District Technology Department updates these resources regularly and is available to answer any questions regarding online resources and Chromebooks. 

 

Attendance

We have established a calendar that holds students accountable to specific times during the day. Student participation and attendance is a critical component of learning. During school building closures and throughout the year, we ask that you follow the procedures outlined in the link below.

Message from the Summit County Health Department Addressing Covid-19

The Summit County Health Department has issued a Letter - Link  to all students and families with strategies to slow the spread of Covid19 infections to reinforce with students. As parents, It is critical to review this letter with our Black Tiger students.

Student Schedules

Student schedules are available via Progress Book. Please refer to the How To Access Student Schedules on Progress Book for directions to access schedules. The staff will provide all students with a Google Classroom code. Once students join Google Classroom, a link to an online meeting through Zoom or Google Meets is posted for students to attend online live classes. IMPORTANT - STUDENT TIGER TIME IS THE SAME CLASS AS FIRST PERIOD.

For any scheduling questions, students are encouraged to reach out to their school counselor or make an appointment with the guidance department secretary.

McKinney-Vento Act - Assistance for Families Facing Homelessness

Families facing challenging times and find themselves currently living in a shelter, in a motel or campground due to the lack of an alternative adequate accommodation, in a car, park, abandoned building, or bus or train station, or doubled up with other people due to loss of housing or economic hardship, your school-age children may qualify for certain rights and protections under the federal McKinney-Vento Act.
