October 21, 2020
Dear Black Tiger Family:
We have heard from many families, and from our students as well, regarding concerns with our afternoon schedule. In an effort to make this time more meaningful for student growth and achievement, beginning Monday, October 26, we will move to a new 6-12 afternoon schedule for both our in-person and Black Tiger Remote Learning Academy (BTRLA) students.
Afternoons will convert to Black Tiger Pride Instructional Support (grades 6-12), with an emphasis being placed on student intervention and enrichment. Students may schedule time to work with teachers via Google Calendar or have scheduled Zoom sessions; teachers will also be reaching out to students to schedule intervention and enrichment time.
Middle School Student Hybrid Schedule
High School Student Hybrid Schedule
The benefits of this change include:
Instructional Support for grades 6-12
Time used purposefully for student intervention and enrichment
Students and families will have time to meet with teachers, similar to the office hours utilized in the remote format, but in a more structured way.
Better meets the needs of students in the Career programs at our high school
We have heard concerns from our BTRLA families when we have had previous changes to the schedule. However, aligning the schedules between Option 1 and Option 2 enables us to share over 40 teachers between both the middle school, the high school and the BTRLA, thus expanding the educational opportunities for all of our student populations, including those in band, choir, art, world language classes, as well as students with disabilities and our English Learner population. It is a solution that supports every student, every day, every opportunity.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we move to our new schedule.
Be safe, stay well, and as always – Go Black Tigers!
