KEY TO SAFE DRIVING
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among 15-to-20-year-olds, with nearly 5,000 teen drivers dying each year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Experts blame many of these accidents on poor driver training. For example, the average 16-year-old soccer player has had 1,500 hours of soccer coaching, while the average 16-year-old teen driver has had only 50 hours of driver coaching.
To raise awareness about the need for better training of teen drivers and to improve teens’ driving skills, Key is sponsoring Key to Safe Teen Driving, a
FREE
program that will travel to schools in Cleveland, Dayton, Cincinnati, Stow, Canton, Toledo, South Bend, Indianapolis, Columbus, Ann Arbor, Rochester and Buffalo. The program is conducted by professional driving instructors from The Mid-Ohio School and teaches teens driving skills that are not taught in normal driver’s education programs.
·
Key’s mission is to help clients and communities thrive. Key to Safe Teen Driving helps teens thrive by teaching them skills that normal driver education programs don’t address.
·
Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among 15-to-20-year-olds. Key is sponsoring Key to Safe Teen Driving because it is designed to improve teens’ driving skills and raise awareness about the importance of proper training for young drivers.
·
Key is teaming with The Mid-Ohio School, one of the country’s leading driver training programs. More than 15,000 teens have graduated from the Mid-Ohio School’s teen defensive driving program. Kumho Tire USA is also an important partner in the program.
·
Key to Safe Teen Driving is aimed at high school students and is being conducted in the summer because June, July and August are the worst months for teen traffic accidents and fatalities.

Registration is free and begins May 10 at
